Stonevault is an experimental desktop application that scans your computer for some viruses and worms. Stonevault can also detect unknown virus variants based on data from known samples.
Stonevault has been built to test a system that automatically collects virus definitions. Please notice that the number of viruses that Stonevault detects is small and that the risk of false positives are probably high. See this applications as an experiment, not as a full-feathered protection suite with 100% accuracy.
In order to use Stonevault you must agree to the following:
Please download the setup file, save it somewhere on your computer, double click the file to start the installation. The installation wizard will guide you through the installation.
Once the installation is finished, you can run the program by clicking Start -> (All) programs -> Stonevault -> Stonevault. (The Start button is generally located in the bottom left corner on your desktop.)
When Stonevault starts it will show the
"Welcome screen" with some general information about the program. To continue, press the "Start scan" button and Stonevault will examine your system's hard drives. The scan will probably take a few hours.
When the scanning is finished you will see the "Scan finished screen" which shows a list of files that was detected. You can get more details about the virus by clicking the links. Check the boxes of the files you want to remove, when finished, scroll down to the bottom and click "Apply selected changes", and the files you have chosen will be deleted.
Remember that you must verify that the file is a threat and not a legitimate file by using other anti-virus software.
Please keep in mind that you can update Stonevault by pressing the UPDATES button in the Welcome screen. This will update the latest virus definitions. If an update was available and successfully downloaded, remember to scan your system again.
When there has been a major upgrade of Stonevault it will be required to uninstall the program and then download the new version. In such an event you will be notified in Stonevault's welcome screen.
You can uninstall Stonevault from the "Add/Remove Programs" dialog accessible from the Windows Control Panel. If Stonevault is running, please close it before starting the uninstall.
Generally this error can be ignored. It occurs when the access permission has been set to not allow read access the file or if it is in use by another program.
